Ellen Schmidt
Sewing Educator and Longarm SpecialistCofounder, Sew There Sac
Ellen Schmidt is a fabric artist who focuses primarily on quilting. She lives and thrives right here in the heart of Sacramento. Her entire tiny house is all studio and it shows with fabric and tools everywhere. She often refers to herself as an experimental quilter. Over the years, she’s learned that listening to the little voice that says……”hummmm, what if?” can lead to amazing, and unexpected discoveries. Failing is also an option, of course, but never a bad thing. There’s always a lesson learned.
Ellen grew up in Illinois with her mom: homemaker, artist, and fashionista; and her dad, an engineer by day and woodworker on the weekends. They nurtured her creative side and so she painted, sewed things, cut up paper (oh, and Mom’s silk shirt….Oops!) and always gave handmade gifts at Christmas.
After completing her Bachelor of Architecture degree, she moved to Sacramento and never looked back – at least for a while. She worked hard in her chosen profession but something was missing. After the birth of her second child, she took her first quilting class. Oh, the creativity, the fabric, the sewing! It was exhilarating! Teaching became the best way of sharing her rediscovered passion. Guiding and encouraging students to make discoveries of their own is the best reward.
